The Good News

Recently, the news fills entirely too quickly with dreadful headlines—fighting, flooding, gun-wielding violence. It’s terrible; it’s often disgusting. It’s too much. (This morning I shot out of bed after a series of nasty nightmares. No thank you.)

It’s time to focus on all the good. (Because, truly, there’s just so much.)

Here’s my link love for you this Tuesday morn:

+Last week at The Round, I discovered the incredible Naomi Wachira. If you ever get the chance to see this chica live, you should. She sings with beautiful, raw emotion that reverberates off the rafters, and her wide smile illuminates the whole room. Today she released a new video!

+Dog + elephant=BFFs. I mean, really, you guys.

+In light of my recent bizarre Gilmore Girls obsession (I blame my searing head/earache that’s had me grounded here), this link seems all too appropriate:)

+This commercial has been making the rounds, and I finally took the three minutes to watch it. It’s pretty amazing.

+My college friend Nicki has just completed a stunning thesis in which she put together a compilation of stories from self-advocates with Down Syndrome. Have a listen here. Wow.

See, the good does abound. Let’s celebrate that (and them).

Yin-yang

I don’t get life this week. Well, often, really. So much beautiful, breathtaking, good news mixed in with that which is sad and heart-renching and just beyond understanding. It’s such a balance. Sometimes the information rushes in at waterfall speed. Timing can feel surreal and uncanny, and it’s just a lot to process.

What choice do we have but to ride it all out and do our best to focus on the love that surrounds?

How are your weeks going, friends? Here’s hoping you are enjoying an influx of news that’s good.

Weaving life

This week I am reminded of the intricate web that life weaves, simultaneously delivering beautiful doses of the good within moments of unexpected doses of blindsiding bad. Life often steals away our breath, coming at us when (and in ways) we least expect. It is confusing and it overwhelms; it doesn’t make sense. Sometimes mere words seem beyond insufficient.

The good, the bad, the beautiful, the sad…all sewn into one interconnected net of life glistening, dancing in the morning light. It’s powerful, isn’t it?

This week, I hold on to reminders of what truly matters, to the faith that the human spirit (and body) can be resilient, to the gratitude for visits from friends I’ve known since I was wee (and who are in really amazing, exciting life places), to the example of attitudes and outlooks that seem nothing short of heroic.

It’s a week of sightseeing, sailing, eating, drinking, deadlines, cleaning, packing, catchup, visiting, the routine of life… all the while processing bigger happenings and praying for miracles.

Welcome
